WNBA “Watch Me Work” Campaign

Produced with: Davie Brown Entertainment

Client: WNBA

My Role: Producer

Work: Broadcast Anthem :60, Player-specific :30’s, Social Videos

Overview: Say what you will about the WNBA, they have a slew of world-class athletes and basketball players, and to drive ticket sales for the 2018 season, Davie Brown and Radley got some of the biggest stars in the game to “watch them work.” I led a team of editors and animators to make a :60 anthem piece, as well as 7x individual :30 spots each featuring a different player.

Challenge: Basketball players are, well, basketball players. Asking them to act is the same as asking them to build a house. Some were able to deliver lines better than others. I had to figure out how to weave together seven different player journeys into one common anthem to get fans excited about the upcoming season.

Approach: The shoot footage turned out great. After trying out some different structures on paper, we got to cutting and everything just came together. We focused on a mix of swagger, determination, and likable personality against a driving music track to generate genuine excitement. How could you not want to see these gals ball out?
