Wilder Fury II Super Bowl Ad
Produced at: Radley Studios
Client: Fox Sports
My Role: Writer, Producer
Work: Broadcast Promo
Overview: Two words: undefeated showdown. Two more words: Super Bowl. With an earth-shaking rematch approaching shortly after the Big Game, I teamed up with Radley and the Fox Sports gents to hype up the big fight between two larger-than-life undefeated legends in the making.
Challenge: Heavyweight boxing had been in a slump since the Tyson/Holyfield days. How do you make people care about another fight between Wilder and Fury when the first go-round didn’t even have a clear winner? We had to quickly set up the backstory before hyping up these two bulls locking horns once more. Also, no pressure, but only about 100+ million people would be watching.
Approach: After several rounds of scripting, we decided that straight-to-the-point was the way to go. Two men at the top of their class with a score to settle. We used a letterbox and moments of black and white treatments to create a cinematic feel for this epic spectacle, with striking pops of yellow to highlight the intensity. The sequel drew over 800,000 pay per view buys, up over 475,000 from the first fight, and wound up being one of the best heavyweight battles in a decade.
