Overview: For two years in a row, Reese’s was the official sponsor of Shark Week, and I got to help write and produce a co-branded promo each year. I grew up loving Shark Week as a kid, so it was extra special to have a new connection to the franchise, not to mention Reese’s is my all time favorite candy.

Challenge: Sharks and peanut butter cups — where’s the common ground? I had to get clever to think of ways to marry the two together, then had to think of something totally new the next year! The network also wanted to position sharks as misunderstood creatures, not dangerous killing machines, so we had to be careful how we portrayed sharks in the spots.

Approach: We used fun, summery, surf music and created a fluid, seamless animation just like waves in the ocean. We also leveraged similar shapes to bridge the gap between between animal and chocolate. I don’t know about you, but I could sure go for some Reese’s right about now.
